I was planning to undertake a cool and invigorating short art project this week, but the recent events of my personal life have unfortunately derailed that idea. I can't speak too much more about that, but suffice it to say it'll be at least a good two weeks or so before I can get back on track with the multitude of artistic ideas swimming around in my grey matter.
For now, the would-be first step in the most recent project I had in mind is done, and it's presented below. The piece is titled "Imaginationism" and it was an idea that literally came from nowhere. I was just doodling digital images and suddenly I had a child's face staring at me on a blank Flash stage.
Lately I seem to be gravitating toward artwork featuring the innocence of childhood. As I sketched the little boy I remembered the things that always made my eyes widen as a child and I recall some of my best moments growing up revolving around creating art. So with that in mind, I just went nuts, illustrating a colorless boy who with only his paintbrush creates life and color in his world, all while enjoying the ride and the rush of artistry and creativity.
It's a little hippie-ish, and kind of resembles an acid trip, yes, but I had fun with it. Enjoy.
AUTHOR'S ADDENDUM - Aug 24 2010: I totally forgot to mention that coloring this piece was actually a massive pain in the ass. Seriously. Flash is sometimes a bit epileptic when it comes to working with lots of colors, and it will literally seize up while trying to process multiple shades. This occurred several times during the coloring phase (thank goodness for "Command + S" and the magical "undo" command). Still, is est quis is est (That's Latin for "coloring pictures in Flash is a stupid idea sometimes.").
Imaginationism.
